Current situation of primary schools according to institutional inspection reports: Aksaray province example

This research examines the current situation of 28 public primary schools in the province of Aksaray through the analysis of inspection reports prepared by educational inspectors. The purpose of the study is to present a general overview of these primary schools concerning their physical infrastructure, student population and inclusive education status, the professional profiles of their teachers, student absenteeism and grade repetition rates, the implementation of social activities and community service, and their levels of occupational health and safety (OHS) and disaster preparedness. In this study, the inspection reports prepared by educational inspectors for 28 public primary schools in Aksaray were analyzed using the document analysis method. The findings revealed that, in terms of physical infrastructure, the schools are in a positive condition regarding the cleanliness and orderliness of classrooms, basic technological equipment such as computers and internet access is largely provided, and most schools have sports areas in their yards. However, it was observed that approximately one-third of the schools do not provide accessibility in compliance with standards for individuals with disabilities. It was determined that a vast majority of teachers hold certificates of achievement and there are no candidate (probationary) teachers in the schools examined. Regarding student attendance, the rate of students with 20 or more days of absenteeism was found to be low in most schools, and grade repetition was a rare occurrence. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the primary schools in Aksaray province present a positive picture in areas such as general classroom conditions, basic technological infrastructure, teacher profiles, and overall student attendance. Nevertheless, shortcomings were identified in the areas of accessibility for individuals with disabilities, the diversity and prevalence of social activities, and the implementation of comprehensive occupational health and safety and disaster preparedness measures. This study aims to contribute to improvement efforts in the areas identified during the inspections of these primary schools.
