Imam Birgivî his i̇deas of sufism

As Imam Birgivî involved in the criticism towards the Islamic philosophy and expressed criticism to sûfis, he was fingered as anti-mysticism. The reason for being one of the most debated scholar among the Ottoman scholars is his addressing of the issues that will continue for a long time in the Ottoman Empire and could lead to conflict between dervish lodge and madrassas. Imam Birgivî criticized inspiration and kashf that is in opposition to shariah and the mysticism thought that is against the apparent side of Islam; and based on the opinions of the faqihs about sama, dance and overt invocation he opposed to tariqa ritual. This study addresses the mysticism side of Birgivî and investigates his starting point of criticizing the controversial issues and whether he was against mysticism or not. The sources of the research consist Birgivî's works and especially Tarîqatu'l-Muhammadiyyah ans his important commentaries Hadîqa and Barîqa. Issues that Birgivi criticized are shown in the classical mysticism work such as Risâletu'l-Kusheyrî, Keshfu'l-Mahjûb, Ihyâ, Avârif and it has been tried to be put forward that he was not against sufism and tariqa in line with the followers of sunnah.
