Abstract (EN)

In this study, the faith and moral understanding of Imam Mâturîdî have been examined, and his spiritual thought system has been analyzed in detail. Throughout the study, fundamental concepts related to faith and morality were evaluated in light of classical Islamic sources, and the elements shaping Mâturîdî's system of belief and morality were thoroughly analyzed. Faith, affirmation (tasdîq), and their relationship with reason were discussed, emphasizing that heartfelt affirmation serves as a foundational aspect of Mâturîdî's understanding of faith. Furthermore, the relationship between faith and deeds was explored from a moral perspective, highlighting that while deeds are not considered an integral part of faith, they play a significant role in the perfection of faith from an ethical standpoint. In the section on morality, concepts such as knowledge, will, and acquisition (kasb) were examined in detail, interpreting human responsibility for moral actions from Mâturîdî's perspective. Additionally, virtues such as justice, patience, and benevolence (ihsân) and vices like arrogance and hypocrisy (riyâ') were analyzed in terms of their individual and societal impacts within the framework of faith and morality. Imam Mâturîdî's understanding of faith and morality was interpreted in the context of intension and extension, providing a comprehensive analysis of his contributions to Islamic thought.
