A comparision of Imam al-Mâturîdî and al-Zamakhsharî's exegesis on the Quranic verses related to will and wish of Allah

Since the day in which the Quran was revealed, many tafsirs have used different methodologies in order to explain the Quranic verses and make it precisely understood. Amongst one of the tafsir methods is "The Dirayah Method" which focuses on combining the logical indications and explanations of the verses in addition to the linguistic grammatical exegesis. The famous book: "Ta'wîlât Ahl al-sunnah" (Ta'wîlât al-Qur'ân) which is written by Maturidi and based on the Dirayah method, is considered one of the first sources of exegesis focusing on the logical explanation of the Quranic verses. Besides Maturidi's exegesis, Zamkhshari's book: "al-Kashshâf" is considered the dominant interpretation book that skillfully focus on the linguistic interpretation of the Quranic verses. One of the writers of these two tafsirs is the leader of Maturidiyya, which is one of the important sects of Sunni Orthodox Muslims, and the other one is al-Zamakhshari who is a member of the last period of Mutazila and one of its defenders. It is noteworthy how every one of these Imams, who belong to a different theological school, used their Kalami opinions and beliefs to interpret the Quranic verses or took the Quranic verses as proofs to support their own theological school and opinions. Because of this reason, it is important to compare the two Imam's different interpretations of the Quranic verses, which contain subjects related to theological or Kalami topics. In this study, the interpretations of these two Imams have been examined from theological and Kalami perspective at first, then from linguistic perspective. Linguistics has many diverse and sub branches. Therefore, it is clear, that the examination of the linguistic interpretations of the verses would take volumes and thesis to complete. Due to this reason, linguistic analyses are examined in verses where the writers are defending the ideas of their school to which they belong. The thesis summary does not prioritize the linguistic interpretation of the Two Imams over their theological Kalami one; on the contrary, it explains and puts forth the theological basis and mindset, which effected the two usage of the linguistic interpretations.
