Clinical and radiographic evaluation of the effect of crown length / implant length ratio on peri-implant tissue health on implant supported fixed prosthetic treatment:a retrospective study

Abstract (EN)

AIM: In this study; It was aimed to clinically and radiographically evaluate the effect of crown length/implant length (C/I) ratio on periimplant tissue health. Also; It was aimed to evaluate the possible relationships between the C/I ratio, the location of the implant rehabilitation, the type of restoration, the type of restoration in the antagonist of the surgical site, possible mechanical complications and periimplant tissue health. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 107 patients (number of implants; 400) who underwent implant surgery between 2017 and 2019 and were followed up for 6-48 months after prosthetic rehabilitation were included in this study. Clinical periimplant parameters and panoramic radiographs of the patients were recorded during the last follow-up sessions. All radiographic measurements were performed using the 'Image J' program. The data obtained were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: It was observed that the C/I ratio had a significant effect on the type of restoration, the type of restoration in the antagonist of the surgical site, possible mechanical complications and implant brand according to the Pearson Chi-square test (p<0.05). On the other hand, the C/I ratio had no significant effect on implant location, periimplant clinical parameters and marginal bone loss (MBL) (p>0.05). In addition, it was found that mesial and distal MBL increased at the last control time (t1) compared to immediately after implant surgery (t0) (p<0.05). DISCUSSION: Our early findings indicate that there is a possible relationship between the C/I ratio and prosthetic factors, while the C/I ratio does not have a short-term effect on periimplant tissue health. Considering the possible effects of prosthetic complications on periimplant tissue health, longer-term studies are needed.
