Histological evaluation of osteogenic potential of induced pluripotent stem cells in rat calvarial defects

Abstract (EN)

Stem cell treatments are a promising approach for bone regeneration and repair. The aim of this study is histological evaluation of bone regeneration using Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPSC) In our study, 28 Sprague Dawley male rats were used. A 4 mm wide calvarial defect was opened in the rats. Biomaterial, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) induced IPSC and osteogenic induced IPSC were applied to the defects. Histological and histomorphometric examination was performed at the end of 4 weeks. The results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0 computer program. There was a statistically significant difference between control group and MSC induced IPSC groups in terms of mean bone volume (p = 0.05). A statistically significant difference was found between control group and osteogenic-induced IPSC groups in terms of mean bone volume (p = 0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in the mean volume of bone volume between MSC induced IPSC and osteogenic-induced IPSC groups (p = 0.73). As a result, it has been shown that IPSC have osteogenic potential in bone healing.
