Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is to question whether a humanitarian intervention against Syria could or could not be made after the Syrian incidents that have been going on since March 2011. During this inquiry, at first, the theoretical sub-structure of human intervention was mentioned. While establishing this theoretical sub-structure, the concept of justified theory of war, humanitarian intervention and responsibility to protect were used. In this theoretical subdivision, in addition to some examples of humanitarian intervention and responsibility to protect in practice, criticisms on the protection responsibility were introduced. After being described all this historical adventure of human intervention, it was mentioned the common point of justified war, human intervention and responsibility to protect. It was stated that how human intervention, which started to be used as a matter of international law towards the end of the 19th century, played a part in the discipline of international relations and which concepts were used. At this point, the British School was drawn upon, which is one of the doctrines in the discipline of International Relations. The British School's brief history, basic assumptions, views on certain concepts, and the responsibility for human intervention and protection were investigated. As a case example, Syrian civil war was studied. While studying the Syrian civil war, the Syrian history, uprisings of the Syrian people, how the British School interpreted the Syrian civil war based on its responsibility for humanitarian intervention and protection, and the behaviors of governments and some international organizations towards the Syrian civil war were presented.
