The relation between human development and education: The comparison of education datas between Turkey and OECD countries

After The Second World War, the development was measured with absolute economical indicators like gross domestic product. The human dimension of the concept began to be studied in 1970s and it has been seen that only economical indicators to be recovered isn't enough for development. Today a rich conceptualization about development has been constituted. Economical development has been considered with a lot of concepts like gross domestic product, education,health, living standards, poverty and equality. The Human Development Report (HDR) which address the human dimension of the development has been published by The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) every year since 1990. In the first part of this study, the development was explained theoretically in a historical perspective. However, in the second part, the determination of Turkey's development level in the field of education was aimed to be compared Turkey's indicators of Human Development Index (HDI) and Education Index which is sub-index of HDI have been formed every year by UNDP with OECD countries. It was determined in the study that Turkey's education indicators are lower than OECD countries'. The study draws attention to the education indicators in the human development index and makes recommendations as policy makers should try upward for the education field.
