Dramatic structure of internet series: The case of series 01 broadcast on Youtube

Series on television channels as a prominent type of program are broadcast in episodes in daily or weekly periods in a time slot within the broadcast stream. Episode durations are determined according to the organization and management structure of television companies, and the dramatic structure is created in accordance with commercial breaks. Both plot and character creation and all the shows are regulated and supervised within the framework of the "Law No. 6112 on the Establishment of Radio and Television Enterprises and their Media Services." New communication technologies have made different broadcasting media environments possible. One of them was the launch of video sharing sites on the internet. The opportunity to share video and audio content, which began on YouTube, a social media platform, continues to increase with the creation of other web sites. Sharing videos produced by professionals or amateurs with audience is also of interest to different groups of people. In this study, the dramatic structure of the YouTube series 01, which is not produced by professionals but is in the series format, is analyzed. Both the differentiation of the broadcast medium and the fact that the shared content is in a series format are discussed in the context of the dramatic structure. Within this framework, firstly television and social media are discussed in the context of popular culture, then the concepts of drama and dramatic structure are examined within the framework of television programs, and in the last part of the thesis, the dramatic structure of the series 01 is revealed by analyzing the dramatic structure of the episodes broadcast on YouTube. It has been concluded that the 01 progresses in the same line with the classic television series in terms of dramatic structure.
