Abstract (EN)

Hate and discriminatory discourse refers to have negative and bad feelings towards an individual or group and to express these feelings. Prejudices, intolerance and stereotype judgements are on the basis of these discourses. An individual may be excluded and marginalized by society through such judgments only because he/she belongs to that group without trying to recognize him/her, and even he/she may face hate crimes with the moral and material damages. The media can support these discourses by making news containing hate and discriminatory discourses. These kinds of discourses are frequently encountered in the traditional media and in the news in the internet environment. Hate and discriminatory discourses are mentioned more especially in the internet environment since it is easier and faster to share and spread them. The aim of this study was to analyze hate and discriminatory discourse in the internet news through the case studies selected. In this study, hate and discriminatory discourses on terror, sports, religion, ethnicity/racism, LGBTİ and political issues in the internet news were examined through case studies. In the study, a case study was determined on each category and it was attempted to analyze a total of 30 news articles from 5 news articles containing hate and discriminatory discourses about these cases. In the study, the content analysis method was used to quantitatively analyze such news mentioned in the internet news, while the critical discourse analysis method developed by Teun van Dijk was used to qualitatively analyze them. When the studies on this subject are analyzed, it is seen that the news were analyzed with one or several samples through a single subject such as sports, religion, politics and so on. This study is important in that hate and discriminatory discourses on 6 different topics in the internet news were examined with through case studies determined. Keywords: İnternet news, news discourse, hate and discriminatory discourses
