SUMMARYTHE INTERACTION OF PSYCHIATRIC MORBIDITY, PERSONALİTYDİSORDERS AND SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC AND CLINICAL VARIABLES INSUCIDAL INDIVIDUALSObjective: The aim of this study is to investigate the risk factors like psychiatricmorbidity, personality disorder, sociodemographic and clinical variables andtheir effects on the process and the results of the suicidal interference, inpatients who undertake suicide, and to search for preventive and curativeapproaches.Material and Method: The sociodemographical data sheet, the SCID-II sheetconfigured for DSM-IV, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), suicidal ideation scale (SIS) andsuicidal intention scale (SInS) were applied following the clinical interview.Results: The mean age was 28.24 ± 10.59. 64% of the patients were female,42% were housewives, 52% were married, 62% had the nüclear family type,54% had low income and 82% committed suicides by high dose oral drugingestion. The most common reason for suicidal intervention was familyproblems; 68% had psychosocial stressors prior to the intervention. After theintervention 36% of the patients were diagnosed as adaptation disorder, while32% was diagnosed as depression. 90% of all cases had at least onepersonality disorder diagnosis according to SCID. 34% had borderlinepersonality disorder; 16% had obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. Anti-social and dependent personality disorders were more common in males. SISand BDI, BHS and BAI were found out to be related.Conclusion: The high rate of personality disorders and the interaction betweenpsychosocial factors and suicidal interventions seem to increase the importanceof the crises interference and suicide prevention centers. On the other hand thefact that family problems are signed to be the most common stressors forsuicide, prove the importance of the in-family dynamics. The corrections of thesocial and economical factors which lead to this behavior are as important as75the treatment of the individuals who commit suicide. This result is a proof thatwe will need large multidisciplinary studies which may apply preservative andpreventive measures.Key words: suicide, personality disorders, psychiatric morbidity,sociodemographic variables, clinical variables.76
