Investigation of effect shotblocker use in intramuscular injection

This study was carried out experimentally between May 2022 and October 2022 in a training and research hospital in Istanbul in order to examine the effect of Shotblocker use on pain in intramuscular injection applications. The sample of the study consisted of 80 patients who were prescribed the same drug in the Postpartum Service and met the research criteria. Experimental and control applications were formed by the 1st and 2nd injection doses of the same patient. One of the injections was administered with Shotblocker and the other with the clinical routine. A volunteer nurse working in the clinic performed the applications after receiving Shotblocker training from the researcher. "Information Form", "Visual Analog Scale" and "Facial Pain Scale" were used to collect research data. NCSS Number Cruncher Statistical System 2020 program was used for statistical analysis in the evaluation of the data. In addition Shapiro Wilks test and Box Plot graphics and Wilcoxon test were used to evaluate the data. The mean age of the patients participating in the study was 30,39±7,9, and the mean body mass index was 30,14±5,47 kg/m2. When the pain scores of the patients were compared depending on the methods, the mean score from the visual analog scale was 2,25±1,97 in the Shotblocker application; found to be 3,73±2,46 in the classical application. The mean score patients got from the facial pain scale was 1,86±1,89 in the Shotblocker application; found to be 3,36±2,42 in the classical application. As a result, it was determined that the mean pain scores in Shotblocker application were statistically significantly lower (p=0,001; p<0,01). In the study, it was concluded that the use of Shotblocker in IM injection applications is effective in reducing intramuscular injection pain. Keywords: Intramuscular İnjection, Pain, ShotBlocker.
