Evaluation of clinicopathologic features in invasive breast carcinoma

Breast carcinomas are the most common neoplasm and the most common cause of cancer-related death in women. In invasive breast carcinomas, prognostic factors affecting the treatment and follow-up of patients are determined by pathologic assessment. Both histological type and molecular subtyping, which can be used instead of genetic studies, affect the patient's treatment and follow-up. Interpreting all prognostic parameters together and determining individualized treatment options that will increase the patient's benefit gain importance in this common tumor. In this study, clinicopathological features were evaluated in 618 patients diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma between 2015 and 2021. The most common histologic type in our cases was invasive breast carcinoma, no special type with 453 (%73,3) patients. When the cases were categorized into molecular subtypes based on immunohistochemistry accepted at the 13th St. Gallen Consensus Conference, the most common subtype was the Luminal B-like HER2 positive subtype (216 patient, %35,9). As the tumor size increased, the presence of axillary lymph node metastasis increased (p<0,05). According to molecular subtypes, in the luminal A subtype, tumors with lower histological grades were more common; in the HER2 positive and triple negative groups, tumors with higher histologic grades were more common (p<0,05). Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes and active inflammatory response were observed much more in ER-negative, HER2-positive tumors, and cases with high Ki-67 proliferation index (p<0,05). In histopathological examination of invasive breast carcinomas, prognostic factors should be evaluated together. This study can be used as a resource for studies to be conducted in our institution. This study will also contribute to additional expanded studies, survival analyses and evaluation of treatment processes.
