Abstract (EN)
This mixed-method design study examines the out-of-class English activities which are done by the 12th-grade students in Fen Bilimleri Temel Lisesi in Adana. Furthermore, the study aims to reveal what kind of activities they do and the frequency of these activities. Additionally, the effect of these out-of-class activities on the four skills of English, the barriers they face, and the frequency of these barriers are examined. Finally, whether the participants motivate themselves or not while doing these activities, their views towards English and the role of English in out-of-class activities are examined. Eighty-one 12th-grade students studying at Adana Fen Bilimleri Temel Lisesi participated in this study. Quantitate and qualitative research methods were used to gather data. The qualitative data gathered through the survey, given to the participants, was categorized and tabularized. According to the qualitative data, the most frequent activities participants do are playing games, listening to music and communicating with foreigners and friends. Additionally, when looked at the quantitative data the most frequent activities are, watching movies/series, listening to music and using social media. According to the gathered data, participants tend to do activities that require receptive abilities.
