Abstract (EN)

Unlike the world changing and developing, the problems experienced about foreign language teaching and learning, attitudes and perceptions toward this process have not shown a progress. In this sense, the scope of this study was to find out the main problems of Learning-Teaching English as a Foreign Language in both English teachers' and learners' point of view. Also, it aimed to find out the practices and methods being performed in English lessons. To attain these objectives, both qualitative and quantitative methods were used. The qualitative part of this study was included in 2 different questionnaires; a questionnaire including 36 questions for students and a questionnaire including 47 questions for English teachers while the quantitative part was included in a follow-up structured 6 open-ended interview questions. This study was conducted with 150 5th grade students and 5 English teachers at Alparslan Secondary School, in Malazgirt, Muş, Turkey. The findings reveal that there are many problems based on different subjects in terms of learning English and basic language skills for both teachers and students. In addition, the findings showed that there is no statistically significant difference for students' age and gender while learning basic language skills.
