The investigation of students' engagement in various activities: ted-ed lessons case

This research is a descriptive quantitative study that aims to explore the engagement patterns of English language learners' participation in TED-Ed lesson tasks as part of an EFL listening course. English language education is a substantial element that is almost universally valued by the general public. Today, English language education continues to benefit from an increasing number of educational resources. TED Education is an innovative web tool that enables learners to explore a wide range of global topics. Selecting TED-Ed as a Web 2.0 tool for English language learning aims to extend students' learning experiences beyond the classroom and leverage this innovative platform. The objective of the study is to explore how students' engagement levels, task completion, and participation rates change over the course of an eight-week TED-Ed-based English language learning program at İstanbul Galata University, extending learning beyond the classroom setting. This research quantitatively evaluates patterns of participation and engagement recorded by the TED-Ed platform over an eight-week period. The study was conducted at İstanbul Galata University and focused on elementary-level students enrolled in the English Preparatory Program. The research involved a study group of students aged between 18 and 21. The data for this study was gathered by a descriptive quantitative research method that mainly employed platform-based metrics such as participation rates, multiple-choice performance, and task completion rates. The findings aim to explain how students' engagement levels, task completion, and participation rates evolve throughout an eight-week TED-Ed-based program, highlighting the potential of TED-Ed as a supplementary tool in EFL settings.
