Abstract (EN)
Within the scope of the thesis, the origin and development of Ionic frieze were examined through selected published examples and it was handled from Near East to Italy in a wide geography. Due to the etymology of the term which has various meanings, the place of the frieze both in and apart from the architecture is discussed. For this reason, the examples were chosen in a wide time span, from the period when the idea of decoration emerge until the prevalent use of the frieze in the Ionic order. In order to follow the development of the frieze in the Ionic order, it is classified typologically according to its decoration.
