Abstract (EN)

When acrylic hand knitting yarns are turned into fabric, static electricity and pilling are observed during their use. Problems in suitability for use such as these properties can lead to customer complaints. Different methods are applied for each property to improve these problems. The most common of these methods is the application of antistatic chemicals to the yarns and the production of yarn from long fibers. While antistatic chemicals applied to the yarns to improve static electricity cause environmental pollution during production, they lose their properties over time due to the washing process during use. As an alternative to these methods, the production of blended yarn was considered by taking advantage of the less static electricity property of wool fiber compared to acrylic fiber. Since wool fiber is an expensive fiber, the aim of the project was to determine the wool-acrylic blend ratio that would meet acceptable static electricity. Since the strength of wool fiber is lower than the strength of acrylic fiber, it is predicted that the beads that may form will break off from the fabric surface in a shorter time and therefore the pilling behavior of the fabric will develop. Within the scope of the study, both acrylic and wool fibers were colored with fiber dyeing. Colored fibers in the form of draw frame strip were mixed in different strip numbers in the draw frame process. The blend homogeneity was achieved with 4 passages of draw frame. The obtained draw frame sliver was converted into yarn by ring spinning technique according to semi-worsted method. The twist amount, yarn linear density, and twist direction of all blended yarns were kept constant. The yarn strength, yarn-metal friction coefficient, static electricity, touch and pilling properties of these yarns were measured in yarn and fabric form. For wool acrylic blends, increasing the wool ratio in the blend; decreased the breaking strength and percentage breaking elongation ratio, worsened the touch, and increased the yarn-metal friction coefficient and surface static electricity resistance. It did not cause any noticeable change in pilling behavior.
