Özet (EN)
Infusion-related flebitis is a common complication that occurs with inflammation of the venin tunica intima layer due to infusion of liquids, medicines or other substances. This study is a point prevalence study to determine the prevalence of infusion-related flebitis in patients administered a peripheral intravenous catheter. Prior to the start of the study, authorization from the institution, ethics board authorization and written approval from the patients were obtained. The data collection includes forms related to patient characteristics, peripheral intravenous catheters, and flebit scale. The data in this study was analyzed using the SPSS 22 software package. In addition to frequency analyses, dependencies between variables were studied using the Ki-Kare dependency test. The prevalence of flebitis in the study was 64.5%. The rates of developing flebitis have varied, with the most common one being the first degree flebit. The study found that the first day the catheter was placed, more flebit was developed. Antibiotic therapy was administered to 59.3% of the catheters applied to the developing region of Flebit. The study found that the development of flebitis was more common in patients with heart failure and in catheters used in emergency services. The prevalence of flebit found in our study has exceeded the rate accepted by the Infusion Nurses Unit. Based on these findings, further research is recommended for the development and implementation of evidence-based standard protocols aimed at preventing phlebitis, identifying effective interventions and improving clinical outcomes.
