Reflections of Iran-Israel rivalry on the South Caucasus region

The dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1991 made the Caucasus an important region in international politics. Apart from this, the energy resources in the Caucasus are another factor that increases the importance of the region. In addition, the Caucasus region plays an important role in ensuring the security of Europe and the Middle East. For this reason, the Caucasus region has become one of the competition centers of the great powers and recently especially Iran and Israel. The interest of Iran and Israel in the South Caucasus region makes Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, which are independent countries in the region, important. The desire of the two arch-rivals to be a regional power in the South Caucasus has led to a rivalry especially over Azerbaijan and Georgia. However, these countries want to remain neutral in the competition between Iran and Israel. However, these countries have not been successful in putting their attitudes into practice. The reason for this is the desire of Iran and Israel to increase their influence in the region. In this study, the rivalry of Iran and Israel in the South Caucasus and the attitudes of the two countries towards each other in the region will be analyzed in detail. In addition, the relations of Iran and Israel with the South Caucasus countries will be examined.
