Abstract (EN)

The Shiite Crescent, a geopolitical term that refers to a network of Shiite-majority countries and militias stretching from Iran to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, has played an important role in shaping the political and security dynamics of the Middle East. Iran pioneered the formation of this crescent in order to expand its influence and strengthen its ideological and strategic goals. This network of Shiite groups, including Hezbollah, the Houthis, and various Iraqi militia groups, has provided Iran with a platform to project its power and challenge regional foes, especially Sunni-majority states such as Saudi Arabia. The establishment of the Shiite Crescent exacerbated sectarian divisions and contributed to changing the balance of power in the region. While these alliances have increased Iran's influence, they have also led to significant regional tensions, drawing countries such as Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United States into a complex geopolitical struggle. Ongoing conflicts, including the Syrian Civil War, the Yemen war, and the Israel-Hamas conflict, have challenged the stability of the Shiite Crescent, but Iran's alliances with Shiite groups remain a powerful force. This study assesses the impact of the Shiite Crescent on the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East and examines its implications for both regional power dynamics and the broader security environment. Keywords: Shiite Crescent, Iran, Iraq, Hezbollah, Middle East, regional influence.
