The relationship between job security and productivity: A field study of turkish shipyard

Abstract (EN)

This research has been carried out for the purpose of identifying the view of sub- contracted and permanent/staffed workers about the relationship between job security and productivity in shipyards. The data obtained a survey carried out among 662 people who work in shipyards was evaluated with the statistical analysis. The direction and degree of impact of job security on productivity were evaluated by taking into account demographic characteristics. According to the results there is a direct relationship between job security and productivity. It can be said that existence of job security provides increase on productivity. But the most important findings from the evaluations are the existence or nonexistence of job security is not very important between the factors of influence on productivity for sub-contracted workers. On the other hand, existence of job security is more important among permanent/staffed workers. Another important finding is that the strategies implemented by the firms have a positive effect on the employees' perceptions of productivity.
