Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the working environment of health personnel and occupational accidents occurring in these environments in a public hospital. The population of research and study consist of doctors and nurses working in Muş State Hospital. In this study, a face-to-face questionnaire was applied to 259 doctors and nurses determined by convenience sampling method. As a data collection tool, a questionnaire consisting of 16 statements aimed at assessing occupational accidents and determining the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants with "Working Environment Scale",which was developed by Blegen et al and that was acquired in the literature by studying validity and reliability by Sezgin was used. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistical methods, chi-square analysis, t test in independent samples and one-way analysis of variance were used. Data were analyzed at the 95% confidence interval. According to the results of the study, the most frequently exposed occupational accidents are contact with blood or other body fluids (81.1%), physical or verbal violence (76.1%), and injuries with a cutter-piercer instrument (59.1%). While the general perception of the working environment was at a medium level, it was determined that only the professional relations sub-dimension perception level was high. İn addition, there is a correlation between the department that worked and the stage in which physical or verbal violence occurs and accidents occur more often, between the occupations of the participants and the injury of a cuttering/piercering/sinking device; between the monthly working hour and the stage where exposure to tissue trauma, injury and accidents occur more often in the workplace for reasons such as slippage, falling, and impact; between nighttime work and contact with blood or other body fluid; between professional seniority, injury with a cutter/piercing/sinking tool, contact with blood or other body fluids and a period of time where accidents occur more often. As a result of these findings, it was concluded that the working conditions of health care personnel should be regulated. In addition, in-service training should be provided to health personnel, the work accident notification system should be activated and all of these should be supported by management.
