Developments in occupational safety and health: Evaluation of awareness of Altınova Shipyard workers

Occupational safety and health is getting more important day by day in Turkey as it is in the world. Because of occupational accidents and diseases result in workers' deaths, Turkey becomes one of the high rank countries in terms of the occupational safety and health issues in the world. The current situation of Turkey related to occupational health and safety issues requires some studies and investigations in different sectors.As a result of occupational accidents occurring in the rapidly growing shipbuilding industry in Turkey working on this sector has attracted the attention of injuries and deaths. Work accidents and occupational diseases as a cause of the arrival of the workers demonstrated a lack of information and education. Another factor affecting the occupational health and safety is current laws.The purpose of this study: Investigation developments in occupational health and safety and shipyard workers to evaluate the levels of awareness of occupational health and safety. The research questions of this study are as follows:?What are the developments in occupational health and safety??What is the level of awareness of occupational health and safety of the shipyard workers?To find an answer to these questions, reviewing literature review on occupational health and safety improvements. Working with the relevant international organizations and their work life with health and safety arrangements were investigated. The work in the shipyards, and also examined the importance of occupational health and safety of shipyards. In order to measure levels of shipyard workers? awareness of occupational health and safety survey was applied.
