The effect of labor's job interdependence, political behaviours, role conflict and ambiguity on burnout: An investigation in health institutions

Abstract (EN)

The term 'burnout' is one of the subjects most thoroughly examined in recent years. It is a fact that employees in contemporary corporations, particularly in service industry, experience psychological burnout. Hospital employees in face to face interaction with patients are substantially influenced by this adverse condition. The level of employees burnout is affected by organizational commitment, role conflict, job satisfaction and similar factors. This study intends to examine the effects of job interdependence, political behaviour, role conflict and ambiguity experienced by hospital employees on burnout level. Accordingly, a research methdology for the terms and dimensions mentioned above was designed, and than those terms and dimension were tested. In order to test the model, the data were collected from 393 hospital employees employed in public hospital classified as a second grade/class health institution and private hospitals located in Adana. The first finding of analysis results is that the level of burnout varied by demographic characteristics. Hierarchical regression analysis was applied and gender, revenue, age, position and working hours in hospital were taken as control variable. The second finding of the study is that much as political behaviours do not have impact on burnout level, they have effect on emotional exhaustion, depersnational and personal achievement, which are the dimensions of burnout. While job interdependence does not effect on burnout but It has effect on sub-dimensions. The study also recommended that role conflict and ambiguity have no effect on burnout but have effect on sub-dimensions. In the multiple regression analysis conducted showed that only political behaviours, have impact on burnout level, but do not have effect on job interdependence role conflict and ambguity. The final finding demonstrates that compared to the employees working in private hospitals, the employees in public hospitals experience more burnout.
