Comporison of Ghazali and Shahrastani's criticism to philosophers in the interaction process of the Islamic thought

In terms of the Islamic intellectual history interaction among kalam, mysticisim and philosopy has a great significance. This interaction also creates the source of dynamism in Islamic thought itself. In the interaction process of this Islamic thought two names come to the forefront. The first of these names is the Avicenna who is a Islamic philosopher and the second one is Al-Ghazali who is an Eş'ari kalam scholar. With his scholar identity Ghazali's criticisms to Islam philosophers especially to Avicenna constitutes one of the most important stages of this interaction period. Because in the Islamic thought history kalam and mysticisim gained an philosophical dimension after this development. In this period even after the Ghazali, philosophers still continued to be criticized by the scholars. After Ghazali, the first person to criticize the philosophers becomes again an Eş'ari theologian Shahrastani. It is seen that after Ghazali, the person who write up the first criticism work to philosophers, Shahrastani's Kitâbü'l-Musâra'a match up with Tehâfütü'l-Felâsife in a great extent. But in this case the questions occurs, Why in a very short time Shahrastani prefers to write up a work that meet in the same point with Ghazali. In this thesis, the answer of this question is tried to be found by comparing aims, methods and criticisims that Shahrastani and Ghazali presents in their works. The first point that get the attention between the the scholars is that Shahrastani doesn't present the tekfir judgement that is seen in Ghazali. In this point on the one hand Shahrastani supports the Ghazali in terms of the aims of the criticisim in his work, on the other hand with his varying aspect from Ghazali, afterward this period he leads to the methodological development of philosophical theology period which finds its reflection exactly in Fakhr ad-Din ar-Râzî.
