Istıhalah and its rules in Islamic Law

In order to maintain their lives, people consume 20% of their food and medicine on naturally basis, the rest is produced in the industry. Industrial food production resulted in products with GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) and industrial medicine resulted in chemical medications. As a result, eight thousand types of additives is recognized. With these substances increasing in number rapidly, the issue of determining whether the product is halal or not, which main ingredients are used, which chemical reaction they are exposed to, has been quite confusing. What's more, in some countries, the water is required to be purified and used properly due to the global warming. In order to understand this matter, the concept of the word Istihalah needs to be well interpreted and observed. In the Fikh literature there are some issues that require more and deeper discussion such as: the wine turning to vinegar, a dog that falls in to the salt lake becoming salt, a soap being made out of waste oil, burning fertilizer becoming ash, and concepts like soiled up. The issues such as food additives, GMOs, water purification, fodder, alcohol use in foods, medicine and cosmetics have been compared with Istihalah in classical Islamic sources, whereas solutions are proposed.
