Abstract (EN)

Money is a phenomenon that we are constantly facing in the context of increasing commercial activities in our daily lives. It has a lot of shapes and features in today's world. From commodity money to fiat money and virtual money to cryptocurrencies, the variety of the types of money that we can use today as a medium of exchange has increased and will continue to increase. Throughout history, money had a reasonable steady evolution, but technological advancement has changed our understanding of money. The increasing interest to cryptocurrencies has moved the new money in to our daily lives. But how is this money evaluated on a Shariah compliance level? In this study, the meaning of the concept of money, the characteristics of money and the understanding of money in Islam will be explained. With blockchain technology the security of transactions will described. The types of cryptocurrencies, the international applications and legal statuses will be evaluated. In the last part, the opinion and evaluation of Islamic jurists about cryptocurrencies will be clarified.
