Comparing the course contents of business administration doctorate programs in terms of quantitative methods lessons: The example of Turkey and foreign universities

Managers of the organizations aim to make the best solution to the problems they face by using the techniques of the quantitative methods. The operations research lesson which is taught to reach this goal is the most common quantitative methods lesson in the course contents of management doctorate programs. Operations research is an interdisciplinary study field which uses the methods of disciplines like management, economics, statistics and econometrics and offers solutions with mathematical methods to the problems that organizations face. It has developed different solution techniques to transportation problem, production problem, assignment problem, portfolio selection problem, stock problem, media problem etc. which a commercial company has to solve. The purpose of this study is comparing the course contents of business administration doctorate programs in Turkish state universities and 30 of best 100 universities in the world, detect the deficiencies and qualifications of our universities. In this way, it is aimed to give some advises to our universities and to contribute to the literature. According to the result of the research, the mentioned 30 universities book place % 17.62 of their course contents to quantitative method lessons meanwhile this ratio in Turkish state universities is %6.11. Quantitative method lessons take place in all of 30 course contents of world universities, but nine of 51 state universities which have business administration doctorate programs in Turkey don’t have any of them. According to these results, our universities don’t book enough space for quantitative method lessons in their business administration doctorate program course contents.
