Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to examine some exhibition places in Turkey which have converted by the current exhibitions, which consists of three chapters. These places lost their functions or remained idle due to various social or physical reasons over time. Through this work, the issue of those places which had established to serve another function into an exhibition place and the contribution of these conversion to the exhibitions in the context of meaning has been enquired. The subject has been discussed through contemporary art practices such as artist-run initiative and new public art. The scope of the work is, evaluating the process which has started especially after the proclamation of the republic with the examples which firstly located in Istanbul and also in the whole country. During the work, the issue of re - functioning through art is reified through examples and also, how the "idea of exhibition" has evolved into the present day since the Ottoman era was mentioned. In every part of the thesis, analyzing the exhibition places according to the political and social developments of the period that was up to date was accentuated.
