A research on the Turkish perception in İsmet Özel's İslamism

With the idea of the nation-state, which is a modern fact, identi fications alsa have gained a different dimension as in many issues. Accor dingly, the identity of Turkishness was redefined in the context of the modern Turkish nation-state with the praclamation of the Republic as well. İsmet Özel put forward a different definition of Turkishness from the definition of Turkishness that has been made up to now, by going beyand the ordinary. Özel claims that the context of the new definition of Turkishness is not taken from the ideology of the modern nation state, but from thase who pioneered the spread of Islam and Islam in the historical process. Along with the definition of Turkishness as mentioned, Özel also opened the door to new discussion of Turkish identity. In this re respect, Özel put forward a different perspective in the viewpoint of Turkish identity with his new definition. Özel aim to form a façade against non-muslim, capitalism and imperialism with his definition of Turkishness which he built on Islamic values, far from an ethnic and cultural basis in the mast general sense. The focus of the thesis comprehension of Turkishness. Islam is at the center of Özel's thaught and definition of Turkishness. According to, the third chapter focused on Özel's idea of Turkishness and tried to focus on the political, economic and social facts that led to the emergence of this thought. In this research, writer and poet İsmet Özel's, who manage to draw attention to himself with the definition of Turkishness, the basic mainstay of the definition Turkishness wich he made on the basis of Islam, has been tried to be determined. Afterwards, analyting the boundaries of Özel's definition of Turkishness and what the political, economic and cultural evokes of this definition are among the main aims of this study also.
