Israel's leftist political parties and the Arab-Israeli peace process: A comparative analysis of the 'Peres-Rabin-Barak' terms

As indicated by the title of this study, in order for us to analyze Israel's three left governments, the Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, and Ehud Barak administrations, we must first analyze the historical origins of Jewish left culture, as well as the pogrom, anti-Semitism, and the Haskalah (Enlightenment) processes experienced by Jews in continental Europe. Additionally, the effects of Jews on Europe's left operations and revolutions, and how the state's ideology and institutional culture developed in the course leading up to the State of Israel, are analyzed based on the realities presented to us through the historical perspective. The second part of the thesis title, the Arab-Israeli Peace Process, focuses on analyzing not only the Camp David Accords in Egypt, but both the Ceasefires during the process leading up to Camp David, and the effects of the Oslo Process with the Palestine Administration in the following years on the policies and approaches of Israel's left and right parties. The differences of opinion and policies between Israel's left and right parties during all these processes are examined as well. The comparison of the Peres-Rabin-Barak periods draws attention to the political and social events that came to rise in Israel's internal and external dynamics in the said periods, and presents to the reader the strategies followed by the existing governments. Among Israel's three political actors, the foreign policy carried out by Yitzhak Rabin during his 1974-77 and 1992-95 governments, continues to influence Israel's foreign policy today. Thus, the study focuses on how Rabin implemented his domestic 'Interdependence' policy, and foreign 'Linkage' policy. As our study references Hebrew resources besides Turkish and English resources, and is the first study to simultaneously compare the 'Peres-Rabin-Barak' periods, it stands as a unique study in its field.
