Abstract (EN)

In this study, which was structured to examine the cases coming to Istanbul Council of Forensic Medicine Observation Department in terms of suicide and interpersonal violence; we focused on the relationship between suicidal ideation, psychological pain, childhood traumas and interpersonal violence. Personal Information Form (PIF), Mee-Bunney Psychological Pain Assessment Scale (MBPPAS), Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-33), Karolinska Interpersonal Violence Scale (KIVS), Suicide Cognitions Scale-Revised (SCS-R) and Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSSI) were administered to n=409 volunteer participants. Firstly, in the findings obtained within the scope of the hypotheses, the hypothesis "As the scores of individuals' psychological pain and childhood traumas increase, their suicidal ideation scores will also increase." was confirmed. There was a strong positive correlation between MBPPAS and SCS-R and BSSI; a weak positive correlation between CTQ-33 Total and SCS-R; and a moderate positive correlation between CTQ-33 and BSSI Total. According to the hypothesis of our study "There is a significant positive relationship between childhood psychological traumas and suicidal ideation and interpersonal violence.", a positive moderate relationship was determined between KIVS Total and CTQ-33 Total, SCS-R and BSSI Total. In the findings related to the hypothesis "Psychological pain significantly predicts suicidal ideation", it was observed that a one unit increase in MBPPAS caused a 0.96 unit increase in SCS-R and a 0.67 unit increase in BSSI. In the findings related to the hypothesis "Psychological pain has a mediating effect in the relationship between childhood traumas and suicidal ideation.", it was determined that MBPPAS had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between CTQ-33 and BSSI. Secondly, the findings obtained for the validity and reliability analyses of the Karolinska Interpersonal Violence Scale (KIVS) showed that there were significant differences between those who had suicidal ideation and those who did not, between those who attempted suicide and those who did not, and between those who engaged in physically violent criminal behavior and those who did not. Correlation values showed that there was a positive and high-severity relationship between the KIVS total score and the two sub-factors measuring exposure to violent behavior and use of violence throughout the life cycle, and a positive and high-severity relationship between the four subscales scales (KIVS-A1, KIVS-A2, KIVS-B1, KIVS-B2). Analyses related to the BSSI and CTQ-33 confirmed that the KIVS has criterion and predictive validity. Thirdly, the findings obtained from the validity and reliability analyses for the Suicidal Cognitions Scale-Revised (SCS-R) showed that there were significant differences between the groups of suicidal ideation, frequency of suicidal ideation and presence of suicide attempt. A strong positive correlation between the SCS-R and the BSSI showed that the SCS-R has criterion validity, and multiple linear regression analysis with the SCS-R as the dependent variable showed that the scale has predictive validity. In conclusion, the fact that the validity and reliability studies of the KIVS and SCS-R were conducted with the sample included in the forensic psychiatric evaluation shows that they can be used as important data collection tools that will be successful in predicting interpersonal violence and suicide risk in both clinical studies and forensic sciences research.
