Abstract (EN)

From the nineteen century, economic development of industrialization attracted the population by creating jobs. This situation has led to increasing of cities population and also caused the rapid growth of cities. This rapid change in cities has brought many problems. One of the most important problem was the housing problem. In order to solve this housing problem, social housing policies were implemented under the leadership of Western European countries in the late 19th century. In the following years, social housing policies have been seen in other developing countries. Turkey as one of the developing countries has started social housing policies 1960s. In the 1980s, TOKI (Governmental Mass Housing Administration) was established to develop social housing policies. During the first years of establishment, TOKI was effective in social housing production by providing loans to housing cooperatives. However, next years with the increase of its authority, TOKI has played an active role in housing productions. Social housing productions attract the attention of geographers with the differences they create in the space as well as the differences they create in social life. The aim of the thesis is explain to social and spatial consequences of social housing practices in Tuzla case. The first part of the thesis, social housing was explained. In the second part, social housing policies in the world have been analyzed. In the third part, social housing policies in Turkey described. In the last chapter, the social housing activities in Tuzla are explained. During the thesis study, various data received from the public institution and research surveys and interviews were conducted in the study area.
