Abstract (EN)
Museum education is a crucial part of museology today. Through their collections, museums demonstrate different and entertaining ways of acquiring knowledge by creating an educational environment that stimulates curiosity for their visitors and encourages creative and lateral thinking. Educational programs created by museum educators for various age groups contribute to children's development, awareness of museums, and preservation of cultural heritage. This study, titled "The Development of a Children's Education Model for Istanbul Archeology Museums", focuses on the pedagogical function of the Istanbul Archeology Museums, which does not have a permanent education program. Consisting of three main units, the Istanbul Archeology Museums (the Archeology Museum, Museum of Ancient Orient, and the Tiled Kiosk Museum) have nearly a million artifacts from various cultures, brought from the imperial lands. Creating a pedagogical program through the collections of Istanbul Archeology Museums is imperative to the museum's education department. This study intends to provide an active, educational, instructive, and entertaining museum experience to children through a set of activities. The study's educational models are divided into three sections: workshops, activity papers, and suggestions for online programs. While preparing the education models, the age group was limited to 8-12 years old, and the social, emotional, cognitive, motor, and language developments of children were taken into consideration. Through these pedagogical models, the study provides an educational program that Istanbul Archeology Museums can use.
