Abstract (EN)

Providing accessibility in the context of urban residents in a correct and beneficial way through a good system is, of course, one of the main issues to be resolved in today's metropolitan cities. Urban residents in the senior age groups, who try to survive by trying to overcome the problems by being more exposed to some obstacles and restrictions both socially and physically in terms of accessibility, are perhaps the most ignored groups in this regard. In this thesis, the perspective of the Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which is currently on the agenda, and the limitations of the solutions produced are discussed. This study is an exploratory research examining the travel types of senior age groups, whose exposure to certain physical restrictions has increased with aging. In this context, the city of Istanbul has been determined as the study area, as an area with intense urban mobility, aging population every year and where the diversity of mobility is at a high level. The focus group in the study is urban residents aged 50 and over. Pendulum and personal mobility are examined among the travel types used. In this sense, while evaluating the example of Istanbul, a literature review was made and a survey was used in the scientific research. The survey used in the study was made by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. In addition, this survey data is a valid survey that is still used in transportation plans. Survey data were compiled with the cross-examination logic and data that shed light on the study were obtained. In the analysis of the aforementioned data, the descriptive statistical analysis method, which is a quantitative analysis method, was used. As a result of the analysis study: A significant difference was found between the district groups in terms of mobility level. In addition, there is a significant difference between the district groups in the ratio of the problems stated in transportation. ANOVA analysis was used in the analysis of the mentioned data. As a result of the ANOVA analysis: A significant difference was found between the district groups in terms of mobility level. In addition, there is a significant difference between the district groups in the ratio of the problems stated in transportation. In this thesis, it is aimed to reveal what kind of opportunities alternative transportation proposals can offer regarding transportation barriers. In addition it is expected that the thesis will guide and form a base for future studies.
