Evaluation of periodontal health status of military personnel in istanbul province.

In this study, a total of 330 military personnel in Istanbul province were enrolled and periodontal diseases were evaluated in a specific population whose gender and age groups were standardized. After the clinical measurements were recorded, the CPI index and periodontal status were evaluated. SPSS 26.0 (IBM Corporation, Armonk, New York, United States) program was used for statistical analysis. It has been observed that 90% of the participants visit a dentist when needed. When the CPI index features were examined, it was observed that 10.9% of the participants had a healthy periodontium, 26.1% had bleeding with probing, 48.8% had calculus, %59.4 had a pocket of 3.5-5.5 mm, and 4.8% had a pocket greater than 5.5 mm. It was determined that the group with bleeding by probing was the youngest group, and the occupational year and monthly income level were the lowest in this group. The mother's education level was found to be statistically significantly lower in the participants with pockets deeper than 5.5 mm. There was no significant difference between groups in terms of father's educational status, participants' marital status and smoking. Oral health today is an important element of overall health and shares common risk factors with other aspects of health. Although there is sufficient evidence for effective preventive measures for oral diseases, the success of oral health is still a major public health issue. Dentists have important roles in the creation of society's oral-dental health programs and in the management of defined current problems.
