A work about the examples of cafe's of İstanbul

Coffee, the most popular drink in the earth has its origins in Yemen and Mocca. It has started to spread around the world in the 15th and 16th centuries. While at the beginning the coffee houses were the consumption places, they gradually transferred into places where the political arguments about newspapers and conversations are made and it turned into a place of relaxation and entertainment. At the beginning of the 19th century beverages and food other than coffee was started to be served at the coffee houses. Today, Cafe's are the most popular places for dining and catering areas. 'A work about the examples (cases) of cafe's of İstanbul' is a study that observes how important this drink was in history and its social importance in Istanbul from the 16th century in. Today there are a various types of cafes in Istanbul. In the scope of this thesis, mainly two types of Cafe's, namely chain type and in-Hotel type, are examined and compared, and then some conclusions has been made. In order to achieve the goal, firstly history of Coffee and Cafe's were mentioned then design principles of Cafe's were described in the third chapter. Starting from the fourth section the cafes are searched in five main titles. At first the location of the Cafe's and the aim of the usage are searched, then properties of floor, wall and ceiling in the space, technical equipment, furniture groups and the colors used in space design are determined. Under the titles mentioned the resemblances and the differences of the cafes are observed by drawing the plans and the sections of them. In the ninth section a general assessment of the data collected are made, in the tenth section the results of the work is explained by pointing out the properties of a popular cafe should have. xm
