Growth of the population and distribution by neighborhood inIstanbul

Istanbul, with its geographical location, rich history, natural beauties and economic structure, has always been an important city, both in our country and in the world. In the process of internal migration in our country, while the city of Istanbul is the most important target point of the migration movement; during this period, the population of the city increased rapidly. The rapid increase in the population caused change the appearance and administrative structure of Istanbul. The city of Istanbul, which consisted of only 7 districts administratively in 1927, has 39 districts and 963 neighborhoods in 2019. In this research, it is aimed to examine the development process of the population in İstanbul and to reveal the distribution of the population according to the neighborhoods in Istanbul as of 2019. In the first part of our thesis, the development process of our country's population is discussed according to periods; Thus, the place and importance of Istanbul in the population of our country has been tried to be revealed. In the second part of our research, the development process of Istanbul province and district populations was examined; In this context, the changes in the administrative structure of the province of Istanbul are also mentioned. In the third part of our study, the distribution of the population in İstanbul according to the neighborhoods was examined. Thus, while the development process of the population in İstanbul province and its districts was revealed, as of 2019, the distribution of the population on the basis of neighborhoods was revealed with maps. In our research, the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) was used and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) methodology, which is an effective tool in many fields, was used.
