Abstract (EN)
The main purpose of this study is to identify artifacts from the Mamluk period in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Istanbul and compare them with their counterparts in Egyptian museums. Our study entitled "Comparison of Mamluk works at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art in Istanbul and its counterparts in Egypt" consists of three chapters. The number of examined works has reached 107 pieces. The artworks contain 31 volumes, and 76 works are described in the catalog. In the introduction, the definition of the topic, importance, research method, studies and resources related to the topic are determined. In the first chapter, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts, its location, history and its collections are discussed. And then general information about the Mamluk era has been clarified. The second chapter of this work is the catalog. In this chapter, the Mamluk artifacts in the museum are explained in detail, and each material is listed according to the inventory number in the museum. The catalog contains 76 Mamluk objects, including 9 manuscripts, 18 volumes, 31 ceramics, 13 metals and 5 stones. Chapter three evaluates and compares the Mamluk artifacts. This section is divided into six parts in itself, manuscript art, bookbinding art, ceramic art, metalwork and stone art are examined. Mamluk's works in Istanbul Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum were evaluated in terms of materials, construction and decoration techniques, form and ornamental features. And then they were compared with similar ones in Egyptian and other museums. Finally, as a result of the thesis, it has been tried to reveal the common elements and features in all Mamluk arts, that is, the general pattern of the Mamluk period motifs.
