Abstract (EN)
Although studies on the direct impact of follicular fluid selenium levels on pregnancy success have not yet yielded significant results, the present study revealed a borderline statistically significant negative association between serum selenium levels and pregnancy success. On the other hand, some studies have indicated that selenium levels in follicular fluid are positively correlated with the number of M2 oocytes retrieved, suggesting that selenium could affect oocyte quality and maturation. This suggests that selenium may play a role in influencing pregnancy outcomes. The observation that patients with higher embryo quality had greater pregnancy success rates underscores the importance of embryo selection in infertility treatments. High-quality embryos clearly play a critical role in achieving successful pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, elevated selenium levels in follicular fluid and serum may be associated with the development of higher-quality embryos and increased pregnancy rates. However, to more definitively ascertain the potential effects of selenium on reproductive health and to apply this knowledge more robustly in clinical practice, large-sample, prospective, randomised controlled trials are needed. Such studies could elucidate the impact of selenium on pregnancy outcomes and contribute to the development of new treatment strategies in infertility management.
