Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this research is to examine the variables that affect the reading performance of second-year students with good and poor reading comprehension skills. In the research, 165 students with low and high socio-economic status studying in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş province were studied. This research is a descriptive study in scanning model. In the study, four texts, two of which are informative and two of which are narrative, were used as data collection tools. The studies were carried out individually in the predetermined environments of the students' own schools. The data of the study were analyzed with the SPSS statistical program using the correlation coefficient and Mann Whitney U test. When the findings obtained in the study are examined, according to the second year students being good and poor readers; It was found that there was a significant difference in listening comprehension skills, decoding error percentage, decoding times and fluency.
