Prevalence of Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Borreliosis and Dirofilaria immitis in dogs in Izmir/Ciğli

In the present study the aim was to analyze the prevalances of some selected vector-borne diseases as ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, borreliosis and Dirofilaria immitis dogs in İzmir/Çiğli province. In the present study a total of 100 dogs that were clinically healthy or presenting clinical signs were enrolled that referred to İzmir/Çiğli Municipality Veterinary Directories. Breed, age and sexes of dogs were determined, then were physically examined and sera samples were withdrawn for disease diagnosis. Among all sera samples of dogs commercially available rapid (Idexx Lab) test kits with ELISA principle capable of diagnosing ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, borreliosis and Dirofilaria immitis. In the present study out of 100 dogs enrolled 20 (20%) within ehrlichiosis 14 (14%), anaplasmosis and 2 (2%) D. immitis cases presented seropositivity, whereas there was no seropositivity against borreliosis. Besides 14 dogs were co-infected with ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis, 2 other with D. immitis and ehrlichiosis. In conclusion, it was suggested that İzmir/Çiğli province showed high against vector borne diseases such as ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis, whereas showed few risk against Dirofilaria immitis. Furthermore it must be mentioned that though the latter diseases presented mono or co-infection in İzmir/Çiğli province, they must be taken into consideration through differention diagnosis of diseases among dogs, and necessary preventive measurements should be applied against vector borne diseases in this region.
