Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to identify the similarities and differences between modern and traditional art by examining Jackson Pollock's "Action Painting" and "Dripping" style and "Turkish Marbling Art" in terms of style, technique, formation process, limitations and aesthetics. The study compared Jackson Pollock's works on "Action Painting" and "Dripping" style obtained via literature review and the works of Turkish Marbling Art based on the individual work of the researcher. The study includes six sections. The first section is composed of the problem statement, sub problems, the significance of the current study, its purpose and limitations. The second section addresses abstract art, birth of abstract expressions, concepts and literature reviews related to Jackson Pollock's action painting and dripping practices and the marbling art followed by types of practices related to materials and techniques. The third section includes the method, research model, universe and sample of the study and discusses the data collection techniques. The fourth section, Findings and Interpretations, provides answers to the sub problems under six headings. The fifth and last section, Discussion, addresses the comparisons undertaken in this study. Results and Suggestions include the assessment of the comparative aspects between Turkish Marbling Art and "Action Painting" and "Dripping" style The fact that marbling art, a traditional decorative art and action painting/dripping practices both have abstract images makes one think that the techniques used in marbling and action painting have similar features. However, there is a basic difference since action painting/dripping practices of Pollock which are his most fundamental contributions to modern world of art have been created with an authentic individual style and marbling is committed to strict traditional rules. Pollock's conscious, kinetic and dynamic hand and arm movements used during dripping and the marbling artist's act of sprinkling and brushing which is used to bring the marbling paint (predetermined according to traditional rules and materials) together with the marbling board show that they are stylistically similar.
