Abstract (EN)
Turkestan, which has an important geographical location for World and Turkish History, has hosted many states, especially being the homeland of the Turks. Turkestan has been a geography where political conflicts have been experienced due to its geopolitical position. In this regard, it became an important issue for colonialist states especially in the XVIII century. Especially Russia and Britain's efforts to gain dominance in these lands stand out. It was seen that Russia intensified its interest from the second half of the XVIIth century and this interest continued until the complete occupation of the khanates in the XIXth century. On the other hand, Britain's establishment of the East India Company, which had an important position in terms of its imperialist aims in this regard, and then its complete domination of India dragged both states into competition. Both states, which competed for Turkestan, wanted people from different professional groups to explore the geography of Turkestan and collect information about the region in order to obtain information about the political existence of the khanates that had influence here. In this respect, England sent James Baillie Fraser, a Scottish writer and traveler, to Turkestan. His important work "Narratıve of a Journey into Khorasan in the Years 1821 and 1822," written during this journey, provides comprehensive information about the Teke, Yomut and Goklen Turkmens within the framework of the main subject of the thesis, and about the important states of Turkestan, namely Bukhara, Khiva, Khokand Khanates and their cities. In the light of the important information he provides on this subject, we learn about the socio-cultural structures of the Turkmens; the characteristic structures and state administration procedures of Muhammad Rahim Khan in Khiva Khanate, Shah Haydar in Bukhara Khanate and Omar Khan in Khokand Khanate. It also provides information about the borders, political, social, military, economic, cultural structures and cities of the Khanates. In this respect, this information, which determines the main subject and study of the thesis, has been translated from English into Turkish. Thanks to the information provided, the work provides valuable information about the Turkmens and the West Turkistan Khanates of Khiva, Bukhara and Hokand in 1821-1822. Thus, it is understood how important the information conveyed by Fraser is in terms of the history of Turkestan.
