Özet (EN)

This study explores the global spread of manga as a Japanese art form, their role in cultural hybridization, their huge audiences spanning multiple countries, and the scope and versatility of their cultural, economic and social impact. It details how manga and anime not only export Japanese culture but also import and assimilate elements from other traditions, thereby increasing their global appeal and accessibility. It highlights its influence on international markets and media industries. It shows how strategic collaborations between Japanese creators and global broadcasters have constructed new forms and themes that resonate with international audiences. It discusses and provides examples of the constructive power of manga's distinctive graphic language in the development of the personal style of many illustrators and graphic artists from different geographies. In the practice-based section, a local original manga was produced as a practical extension of the research. This work is treated as a case study in which the researcher, who is also an illustrator raised in Turkey, examines the process of the collision of his subjective illustrative language with manga aesthetics. This style is far from the anonymous, stereotypical drawings and characters that first come to mind when we think of manga/anime. The practice, goes beyond superficial stylistic imitations and explores deeper structural and narrative syntheses. Thus, it aims to provide clues to the potentials of this hybridization process.
