As being a geopolitical entity impacts of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Türkiye's economic security

Cyprus issue has a pivotal role in the Turkish foreign policy issues since 1955. Before analyzing Cyprus issue, change of power distribution in international system should be examined at first glance. World order has been changing in a multipolar structure since 2008. Multipolar world order with a neorealistic perspective causes domination of power politics by featuring states as main actors in international relations. This situation allows Türkiye to implement a more active foreign policy as a middle size state. Turkish Republic Of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has a strategic importance as a geopolitical entity for providing economic security of Türkiye. In the conflict of East-Mediterranean hydrocarbon reserves, because of its geographic location, TRNC, allows Türkiye eligible for energy reserves which is economically vital for Türkiye. Besides this, TRNC and Turkish military presence on the island support Türkiye's energy-hub policy by preventing energy supply lines alternative to Türkiye route. İskenderun Bay is a geographical zone which has a vital a role in the framework of Türkiye's international energy policy. Moreover, Mersin and İskenderun Ports have a critical role in Türkiye's foreign trade approximately %60 of which is realized in sea lanes. TRNC has also a vital role for Türkiye in protecting sea trade and energy transport lines which are the basic parameters of sea geopolitics. One of the centers of tourism industry which is vital for Turkish economy in Türkiye is Antalya province. Security of Antalya Bay is irrevocable for Türkiye to gain economic revenue from tourism industry. To secure Antalya Bay in a military perspective, TRNC has a strategic importance as well. Approximately %20 of Türkiye's installed capacity and ongoing Akkuyu Nuclear Reactor are located very near distance of Cyprus geography. A political change which causes disappearance of TRNC in Cyprus will directly threat Türkiye's security and southern coasts of Türkiye become vulnerable to an amphibious assault. This situation not only effects on Türkiye's general security condition but also directly effects on Türkiye's economic security by threatening the southern coasts of Türkiye in many respects which contains an important part of Turkish economic infrastructure. As a result, the milestone of Turkish economic security in Cyprus is keeping the geopolitical entity of TRNC under shelter.
