Abstract (EN)
In this study, I have tried to investigate on the problems of utility and freedom, which is a fundamental position in the philosophy of British philosopher John Stuart Mill. Also, I have tried to discuss in detail how Mill based his utilitarian ethics and dealt one of the most problematic issues of his time. According to Mill, the greatest moral utility is happiness, which is the greatest political ideal freedom in terms of self-improvement. In addition, examining the opening of Mill to the concepts of freedom and pragmatism is enlightening in terms of giving many clues about the main debates of the era.
