Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a descriptive study in order to determine the mother's practices for 6-24 months babies with constipation problems. This study was conducted with 376 mother and baby who applied to Yozgat Bozok University Research and Application Center Pediatric Outpatient Clinic between March 2017 and September 2018, providing the criteria of research, accept to participate in research. Before starting the study, permission was obtained from Yozgat Bozok University Non-Invasive Clinical Research Ethics Commitee and institution. Data were collected by questionnaire prepared by the researcher according to the literatüre. Collected data were analyzed by using numeric, percentage distribution and Chi Square test. Mothers included in the research, 44.1 % were 26-31 age group, 31.1% had high school education, 76.6% were housewives, 72.6 % were equivalent income to expense, 75.8% had nuclear family and 41.8% had a child was determined. It was determined that 44.4% of the fathers were 26-31 age group, that 40.2% graduated from high school and that all were working. It was found out that 55.3% of the babies were male and 27.3% of the babies were 18 months or older. It was found that 61.1 of mothers, 32.4% of fathers and 24.5% of other siblings had constipation. It was determined that one of fifth of babies made fecal for 4 days and more, more than half of them painful and difficult fecal and was restless, the fecal was as hard as pebble and 15.4 % had bleeding after made fecal. It was found that 59.8% of the babies were taken to the doctor with the complaint of constipation and half of them received treatment. It was determined that all of the mothers thought that some foods made constipation in their babies, but only one third of them removed these foods from their baby's diet. In order to solve the constipation problem of the baby, it was found out that 3.8% of mothers only traditional, 31.0% only contemporary and 65.2% both traditional and contemporary practices used. In the study, it was determined that 64.9% of mothers applied olive oil to the baby's anüs with ear stick or newspaper as traditional practice, that 8.5% put soap in the anüs and 6.3% used herbal tea without consulting the doctor. It was determined that 45.4 % of mother's received information from doctor and %1.1 of them from nurse. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the method used in the study and mother's consultation with doctor and information status about constipation (p<0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between father's job and methods used by mothers for constipation. In the study, it was determined that there was a statistically significant relationship between mother's consultation with doctor, receiving information about constipation, information sources and father's job and the mothods used for baby constipation (p<0.05). In line with the findings obtained from the search, nurses are advised to inform mothers about common health problems, especially constipation and harmfull of traditional practice in infancy within educational and consultancy roles of nurses Keywords: Baby, Constipation, Mother, Practice, Nurse
