Târîkh-i̇ Jahân-ârâ by Kadi Ahmed gaffârî on the Turki̇sh dynasti̇es (Ottomans, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu, Safavi̇ds)

There are many sources on Ottoman, Karakoyunlu, Akkoyunlu and Safavid states which have an important place in Turkish history. Each of these books is of great importance for the illumination of our history. One of the Safavid historians in XVI century is Kadi Ahmed Gaffarî. His Târîkh-i Jahân-ârâ, has not been translated into modern Turkish until now. In this study, starting from this source, information is given about the history of the four major Turkish states mentioned above. Our aim is to translate and evaluate the relevant parts of Târîkh-i Jahân-ârâ from Persian into Turkish and to gain a new main source for Turkish history. Gaffârî dedicated his work, Târîkh-i Jahân-ârâ to Shah Tahmasb. It is accepted as a valuable work in terms of Turkish history. Our study consists of two parts. The first part deals with the Safavid historiography of the Shah Tahmasb period (1524-1576) and the analysis of Kadı Ahmed Gaffârî's Târîkh-i Jahân-ârâ. In this section, it was determined that most of the Safavid historians in the period of Shah Tahmasb personally witnessed the events that took place because they were in the state duty and the importance of their works as the main sources of the period in question. In the second part, we translated Kadı Ahmed Gaffârî's Târîkh-i Jahân-ârâ from Persian into modern Turkish. In the conclusion part, we evaluated the work and found the information not included in the previous historical books and added it to our study.
